Game Fishing

Introduction

There is nothing as exhilarating as when a marlin smashes your lure!

The sound of the line peeling out, adrenaline-pumping excitement as everyone leaps into action to reel in the catch of a lifetime.

And when it comes to big game fishing, Voyageur delivers. Not only is it fully equipped for game fishing with two-game fishing seats ensuring anyone can have a go on the reel, but it also has a berth in both Westhaven, Auckland and Opua, Bay of Islands. So, your fishing adventure could take you right up North to Three Kings where Voyageur has travelled many times in the successful search of marlin. The Bay of Islands which American writer Zane Grey in 1926 enthusiastically described as the “Anglers El Dorado” or down to the Coromandel playground to spearfish for kingfish.

Up North you are spoilt for choice with excellent options like Nine Pin, Bird Rock, Cape Brett, to name just a few and an array of fish species to target from mahi-mahi, skipjack tuna, snapper, tarakihi, hapuku, kingfish, and kahawai. Or you may want to get in the water spearfishing and free dive for scallops, crayfish, mussels and oysters.

Whatever style of fishing you are up for, jigging, deep dropping, live baiting, soft baiting, trolling lures – our skipper will coordinate with the daily conditions to take you to the best possible spots. We encourage tag and release for game fishing.

For fishing day trips and overnight stays, look no further than right on our front door-step in the Hauraki Gulf, one of the most prolific fishing playgrounds in the country. With an abundance of species to target, anglers can mix up their fishing styles at many hot spots including Little Barrier Island, the Mokohinau Islands, Kawau, Waiheke Island, Chennel Island, Horn Rock, and Anchorite Rock. Or, take a trip down to check out The Aldermans, Mercury Island, or Cobra Rock and explore the Coromandel.

There are limitless options of where to explore. Even swing by Matarangi spit for a spot of shark watching. And of course, dolphins and whales are often in the mix for some great sightseeing along the way.
